Why do it yourself?

A common question that I've been asked when taking on this venture is "Why do you want to do the programming and technical stuff yourself?"

There's two reasons that I chose to learn and then implement the technical aspect of this project myself:

1) It's cheaper that way. Like I mentioned previously, I don't have $10K lying around to get someone to develop for me. What I do have however, is some additional time after my daytime job to learn the programming and at least get the stuff accomplished as much as I can. I consider myself a pretty smart guy. I may not know everything but I'm confident that there isn't much in the world that I can't teach myself.

2) Every restaurant owner should at one point or another be able to help out in the kitchen. I think if I'm gonna put my name behind a product then I should try as much as I can to know every aspect of my project. Again it goes back to if I can update the database myself instead of paying/getting someone else to do it, then common business sense tells me to just do it myself. Also that way, if it's whack, then the only person that I can really blame is myself.

So remember, "Every restaurant owner should at some point be able to help out in the kitchen."
